Bristal Assisted Living opens in Bethpage

A new Bristal Assisted Living community has opened in Bethpage.

Located at 1075 Stewart Ave., The Bristal at Bethpage has 152 apartments which includes 40 apartments located in its Reflections Memory Care section, which provides care for residents with Alzheimer’s disease and other memory-related cognitive disorders.

Rates for Bethpage Bristal start at $6,500 a month.

The Bethpage development is the 16th Bristal Assisted Living community on Long Island. Developed by Jericho-based Engel Burman Group, the chain now has a total of 24 assisted living communities. Besides Long Island, Bristal communities are also located in Manhattan, Westchester County and New Jersey.

“Over the last two decades the Bristal name has defined high-quality assisted living and has become synonymous with providing the best care available for our loved ones who choose to no longer live on their own, or for those who need a little extra help,” Maryellen McKeon, senior vice president of operations for the chain, said in a company statement. “I am proud of the quality of life that we bring to each resident at The Bristal and I am so pleased that we are able to offer our services to loving and devoted families across Long Island.”

The fast growth of assisted living facilities is designed to meet rising demand from an aging population. Senior citizens have become the largest and fastest-growing segment of the U.S. population. The country’s 65-and-over population has grown by over 15 percent in the last 15 years and now represents 13 percent of the U.S. population.

Long Island has a higher share of adults over 55 than other New York suburban areas, with 29 percent of residents in Nassau and Suffolk counties now over age 55.
